Period: 2000-2010
This was the time of 6×6 format with my Hasselblad 500C. One wide angle lens (60mm), one 80mm, a portable flash sometimes… I did it all with that. From press assignments to corporate works, and of course all my personal projects.
Period: 2011-2020
I had kept postponing my switch to digital cameras, not willing to leave my Hasselblad aside. A few previous attempts had not been conclusive. The Arab Spring came up, and left me with little choice, going on with my analog ‘Blad’ would turn into a handicap, especially to send ‘files’ from the field. On top of that, slowly magazines were less and less keen on paying for lab fees, thinking at the time that digital photography was free of cost…
Portraits
In this selection you will find various styles I have performed over time.
The Collage Works
I have first experienced with this technique (in Photoshop) with the 5 series of portraits made during the Arab Spring (see Freedom Fighters series). Later on I did try it on other projects, like ‘Phallocracia’, or for some portraits at Notre-Dame-des-Landes (France) or in Turkey during the massive anti-Erdogan protests. Tried it too on some portraits in Paris itself, hoping that magazines would ‘buy’ it on assignments, but that has been more difficult ; magazines don’t really venture into this for their portraiture content.
